Listening is the Skill of Leadership
When leaders become consumed by their reasons why they are right, they are not listening to each other.
When leaders feel they must prove themselves to be respected and valued, they are not listening to you.
When leaders convince themselves of the failings in others, their listening is limited to their stale opinions.
When people aren’t listening, the whole business is losing. We must train our leaders to listen beyond their experience and expertise, outside of their beliefs and reasons.
We must partner our leaders to let go and courageously step into a different kind of listening.
Listening with presence and awareness…
– cultivates connection
– tops-up trust
– propels productivity
– inspires innovation
If nothing else, listening is the skill of leadership.
